Specimen Type/Requirements
1 Green cap (Aerobic Blood Culture Bottle) - Whole Blood
and
1 Orange cap (Anaerobic Blood Culture Bottle) - Whole Blood
Note: For difficult or pediatric draws use:
1 Yellow cap (Pediatric Blood Culture Bottle) - Whole Blood

Mark bottles with collection site and time. Indicate any special requests (Example: Brucella).
For patients <2 months of age, use Betadine collection method.
Do not cover bar code label on bottles. See Correct Placement of Blood Culture Labels
Do not freeze culture media. Blood culture bottles should be stored protected from light prior to use.

*Please do not cancel the order if a specimen arrives at these conditions. Indicate on the specimen, in the computer, or on the bag what the transport conditions were if they do not arrive at room temperature.
