Instructions

Urine is reflexed for microscopic exam if one of the following is present on UA dipstick: protein, blood, nitrates, leukocyte esterase or bright orange color.
Based on UA dipstick and microscopic exam results, urine will reflex to culture if two of the following criteria are met: +nitrite, + leukocyte esterase, >5 WBC/hpf.
Culture will not be automatically reflexed if excess epithelial cells are present (suggesting probable contaminated specimen).
